Mini Musicians is growing! Through our Early Learning Programs, we bring our music curriculum directly to preschools, schools, libraries, and other early childhood organizations throughout Chicagoland, and we're building a network of fantastic teachers to help us do it.
Rather than hiring every teacher for one predetermined weekly schedule, our Teacher Network allows trained teachers to be considered for opportunities based on their location, availability, and interests. Teaching assignments vary by location and may range from an occasional library program or substitute opportunity to a recurring weekly school assignment.
You are not required to accept every opportunity offered to you. When an assignment becomes available that appears to fit your schedule and location, we'll reach out with the details. Once you accept an ongoing assignment, however, we're counting on you! Recurring assignments require a consistent weekly commitment, since our partner schools and little musicians depend on reliability and continuity.
Musicality, personality, and dependability count more than previous teaching experience. If this sounds like your kind of job, please don't hesitate to reach out even if you've never formally taught a music class before. We'll teach you how to teach our program.
What You'll Do

Lead energetic, engaging Mini Musicians classes for babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and young children using our established curriculum.

Travel to partner preschools, schools, libraries, and other early childhood settings.

Sing throughout every class- our program is highly interactive and primarily voice-led.

Lead songs, movement activities, musical games, chants, instrument exploration, and imaginative play.

Create a warm, playful environment while confidently managing a group of young children.

Learn and retain Mini Musicians songs, chants, movements, and teaching strategies through our training program.

Communicate reliably and professionally with the Mini Musicians team and our partner organizations.
All curriculum and program training are provided. You won't need to write lesson plans or create your own curriculum.
Scheduling & Assignments
Most Early Learning Program opportunities take place during weekday daytime hours, particularly mornings and some early afternoons.
Assignments vary. Some teachers may teach only a few hours each week, while others may choose to take on multiple recurring assignments as opportunities become available.
Many school assignments consist of approximately 1–3 hours of consecutive classes at one location, making this an especially good fit for performers, musicians, freelancers, parents, and others looking for meaningful part-time work that can complement another career or schedule.
Teachers may also have opportunities for substitute teaching, special programs, library events, and additional Mini Musicians classes as our Teacher Network continues to grow.
Compensation
Teaching placements start at $40 per hour. Required training and observations are also paid, with training rates varying based on the type and stage of training. Specific compensation details are always provided in advance.
What We're Looking For

A pleasant, tuneful singing voice and strong musical ear. Vocal training is strongly preferred.

Comfort singing confidently without relying on recorded music or accompaniment.

Experience and genuine comfort with babies and/or young children, whether personal or professional.

An enthusiastic, playful, upbeat, patient, and engaging personality.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

The ability to learn songs, chants, lyrics, and corresponding movements accurately and efficiently.

Excellent dependability and professionalism.

Reliable transportation and the ability to travel independently to teaching locations.

Some weekday daytime availability, particularly during morning and early afternoon hours..

A willingness to complete Mini Musicians training and continue learning as our programs grow.
Traditional classroom or music-teaching experience is not required. We're much more interested in finding people with the musical ability, personality, reliability, and natural connection with children that make someone wonderful at this work.
Employment and individual teaching assignments are contingent upon completion of all required background checks, fingerprinting, training, and other screening requirements applicable to the teaching location.
