About Mini Musicians
Mini Musicians is an early childhood music program designed to support young children’s development through joyful, engaging musical experiences.
In each class, children sing, move, listen, and explore music together through playful activities that feel natural and exciting to young learners. Rather than focusing on performance, Mini Musicians invites children to experience music as something they actively create and enjoy.
Through rhythm games, movement songs, instrument exploration, and imaginative play, children naturally build skills that support:
• rhythmic awareness and musical listening
• language and communication
• listening and attention
• motor coordination
• creativity and imagination
• social confidence

Music provides a powerful foundation for learning, and these early experiences help children develop both musical awareness and a lifelong love of music. At its heart, Mini Musicians is simply about the joy of making music together.
The Story Behind the Mini Musicians Program

Created by Musician and Educator
Clara D’Onofrio
Mini Musicians was created by Clara D’Onofrio, a fifth-generation musician with a master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northwestern University, with an emphasis in child development.
Clara grew up in a family of symphony musicians and has spent her career exploring the powerful connection between music and early childhood development. While developing the Mini Musicians curriculum, she worked closely alongside speech-language pathologists and music therapists, drawing from both musical tradition and developmental research to shape the program.
Clara is also Orff-certified, a training that emphasizes hands-on, movement-based music learning for young children. Over more than a decade, Clara has written and curated a collection of nearly 200 songs, rhymes, and musical activities designed to support language development, coordination, listening skills, creativity, and social connection in young children.
Building the Mini Musicians Curriculum

Before creating Mini Musicians, Clara spent several years teaching early childhood music at a well-known music school in Chicago. During that time, she saw firsthand how powerfully young children respond to music when it is presented in a playful, engaging, and developmentally appropriate way.
When she later moved to the suburbs and began building her own program, she knew that the curriculum had to come first.
Clara spent countless hours searching for songs and rhymes that truly supported the kind of musical and developmental experience she wanted for children. Much of what she found felt either overly simplified or lacked the musical richness young children are capable of appreciating.
So she began writing her own.
Over time, those songs grew into a large collection of original music and playful activities designed to support rhythm, language development, coordination, creativity, and joyful participation.
Alongside her original work, Clara also rediscovered beautiful songs from historic children’s music books, including some passed down from her grandmother. These timeless American folk songs and nursery rhymes now sit alongside new material, creating a curriculum that both preserves musical tradition and brings fresh energy to early childhood music.
Today, the Mini Musicians curriculum includes nearly 200 songs, rhymes, and musical activities, each thoughtfully chosen or created to support the developmental needs of young children while nurturing a lifelong love of music.
Why Early Childhood Music Matters
The early years of childhood are filled with incredible curiosity, imagination, and joy. During this time, children learn best through movement, play, and meaningful interaction with the people around them.
Music naturally brings all of these elements together. Through singing, rhythm, and shared musical play, children develop listening skills, coordination, creativity, and confidence, while also experiencing the simple joy of making something together.
In a world where many childhood experiences are increasingly shaped by screens, music offers something refreshingly different: real sound, real movement, and real connection.
At Mini Musicians, the goal is not simply to teach songs, but to create musical experiences that support development, spark imagination, and nurture a lifelong love of music.
